[Movie Review] Who You Gonna Call? GHOSTBUSTERS!!!!

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Ghostbusters have held a very special place in my heart for it was made the year I was born and it was also my very first so-called horror flick on the big screen. That's why when Sony hit the cinemas with the Ghostbusters reboot movie, I was holding my Stay Puft Marshmallow Man figurine in my hand, skipping all the way to the cinema, unable to contain my excitement.

Despite the many negative comments and it being feminist, I went into the cinema with an open heart. Come on, with Saturday Night Live's cast - Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, you know you are in for one big joyride!

The jokes kept pouring in the moment I sat on my seat and yes, though some of the jokes came from the sexy Chris Hemsworth acting the 'him-bo', he did remind me of Rick Moranis's Louis Tully character in the older 2 films.

The story begins tweedy NY professor Erin Gilbert (Kristin Wiig) is forced to seek out her ex-friend  Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), with whom she once wrote a book entitled “Ghosts From Our Past: Both Literally and Figuratively” - a 460-page embarrassment for the now respected academic school that Erin works for.
Erin can only "destroy" the existence of the book by introducing the fan of paranormal studies - Abby to the custodian of the allegedly haunted Aldridge Mansion can. But once inside the spook house, Abby's PKE meter spiked as the ghost of the mansion - Gertrude spews slime all over Erin.

Excited and reigniting the love for paranormal existence, ghostbusting was ready for business, with the eccentric engineer, lab assistant - Dr. Jillian Holtzmann (Kristin Wiig), creating the familiar proton packs, ghost traps, logos and vehicles of the original revisited in variously updated fashion.

Completing the new dynamic foursome is subway employee - Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), who many a times add tons of laughing material to the story. And of course, not forgetting the beefcake receptionist - Kevin Beckman (Chris Hemsworth), adding some slapstick jokes and eyecandy to the movie too.
Unbeknownst to them, the ghosts that keep popping up in the city, are being summoned by devices built by Rowan North, an occultist attempting to bring about the apocalypse. It became major hell breaks loose when Rowan planted his devices along ley lines which intersect at the Mercado Hotel in Times Square, releasing hundreds of ghosts and throws the city into darkness.

The story goes on with a possession and of course the Ghostbusters saving the day. I won't spoil too much of the movie for you, but watch out for cameos from the cast of the original Ghostbusters movies, even Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man makes a return alongside the Boogey Man!
The movie is worth the watch with upgraded effects enhancing the ghosts and newer ghost busting devices with a modern touch. There was definitely moment when I felt the chills and tons of laughter, the reboot Ghostbusters will definitely be an inspiration for the upcoming Halloween dress up and haunted houses.

Do stay on for the post credits scene, it might bring a reminder to who the next atagonist might just be... The Ghostbusters is already in cinemas islandwide, do stay tuned to Sony Pictures Facebook Page for more movie updates! https://www.facebook.com/SonyPicturesSG/?fref=ts
