Marina Square Enchants the Holiday Season with Sanrio Characters in Christmas Wanderland

I had a fantastic Christmas celebration with my beloved Sanrio characters! I got the chance to embrace Gudetama, and we even enjoyed playing in the snow, capturing many delightful pictures with my hubby.

A Sanrio fan too? Come on down to Marina Square's central atrium as it turns into a picture-perfect magical Christmas Wanderland from 23 November 2023 till 1 January 2024!

At the center of the enchanting Christmas Wonderland, the adorable Hello Kitty welcomes us to the captivating Pink Christmas Tree, adorned with abundant presents, spreading joyous wishes throughout this festive season. The mesmerizing 6-meter-tall Christmas Tree is embellished with pink, turquoise, pearl white, and gold ornaments, pink-shaped ribbons, and crowned with a sparkling star.

    

Encounter Cinnamoroll at the Enchanting Rink, positioned against the radiant Christmas Tree, creating an ideal photo opportunity. This becomes an excellent location for capturing photos amid the planned snow showers.

Meanwhile, Little Twin Stars sparkle near the charming Ball Pit, enticing both kids and adults to immerse themselves in playful antics with the vibrant balls. Pompompurin, accompanied by the Christmas Sled and an endearing snowman resembling Pompompurin, awaits you, along with the Kuromi Craft Corner and the festive My Melody Christmas Kitchen.

Merry Activities at the Christmas Wanderland

Enjoy more magical moments in the Wanderland with your loved ones by participating in the exciting activities for all families from the young to the young at heart. Little ones can express their creativity at the art station, and you can redeem Sanrio character gifts as you shop in the mall!

BLAXK x BBRC Studios - The Creation of HeeDong

For the next few months, BLAXK by ActionCity (BLAXK), the space for pop culture, art, and collectibles, will collaborate with BBRC Studios to present The Creation of HeeDong Exhibition.  Featuring the works of South Korean artist Aaron Chang at his inaugural solo show in Singapore!

I was introduced to Aaron and HeeDong back at the Pop Toy Show in Singapore. His cute rendition of his Boston Terrier caught my attention with its adorable expressions. If you go on to the Instagram page, there are so many relatable memes and videos to our daily lives!

Meet Aaron Chang – the creator of HeeDong and IVY BOYS!

Based in South Korea, Aaron was previously the Design Director for New Balance Korea who worked in commercial design, UX/UI, and fashion advertising. His beautiful illustrations are a product of his love of fashion and preppy/Ivy style and credits his current style of personal illustrations as inspired by renowned fashion photographer Scott Schuman’s The Sartorialist blog, as well as renowned names like Pitti Uomo, Nick Wooster, and Takahiro Kinoshita.

Best known for his Ivy style of illustration, blending line art and colours with detailed fashion drawings to create his iconic style, Aaron became a strong advocate for the preppy culture and style, creating his own independent and unique IVY BOYS artworks and prints. The signature colours which the artist usually uses – yellow, pink, pale sky blue, and mint – are the colours of his childhood home in Busan, known for its incredible sunsets, seaside, and overall natural landscape.

Aaron held his solo IVY BOYS exhibition in Los Angeles in May 2022. The artist’s strong and clean Ivy Style art was also featured on Hypebeast for his collaboration with clothing label Percival – which was followed by a myriad of projects including brands like New Balance (Korea), Baracuta (Italy), AnIVY (Denmark), TVR (Japan), Grocery (Hong Kong), Drôle De Monsieur (France), Panyter (US) and Attorie (US).

Annyeonghaseyo, HeeDong the Wonder Dog!

HeeDong an inspiration by his real-life Boston Terrier, was born out of the sketchbooks of Aaron and

immediately took on a life of entertainment and fantasy, spreading humour and good vibes in our day-to-day encounters observed through a dog’s lens as he embarks on the various escapades and adventures we all yearn to be a part of.

Affectionately named ‘HeeDong’, this small dog in real life becomes much more in his dreams, or when his ‘hoomans’ are not around. HeeDong lives in a world where adventures are plenty, imagination boundless and anything is possible.

Launched via the world of Web3 and viral memes, HeeDong is not just a pet dog, but an art platform designed by Aaron to represent the inner child in all of us - pop culture, curiosity for the unknown, and wanderlust for escapades.  Gaining mass popularity through short-form animation and spawning off his own meme content on Instagram and TikTok, HeeDong is now ready to venture into the world of designer art toys and collectibles for his fanbase!

Ring in the festive cheer this December as Christmas Wonderland celebrates a decade of wonder as it returns to Gardens by the Bay from 1st December 2023 to 1st January 2024. Presented by Trip.com, the 10th edition of Singapore’s biggest yuletide fair features a supersized fairground with a sensational array of light displays, new carnival rides and more festive activities.

With more than 27,000 square metres to cover, this year’s enlarged fairground comprises three magical zones: Supertree Grove, Frosty’s Fairground at The Meadow, and Gingerbread Grove. You can admire 15 stunning light displays, soak in the holiday cheer with a multi-sensory experience complete with ‘snow’ in the tropics, hop onto new carnival rides, have a go at carnival games, meet Santa Claus, dine on festive fare, catch live performances by local artistes and lots more! 1. SPALLIERA

Taking centre stage at the heart of Supertree Grove is Christmas Wonderland’s main showpiece, the Spalliera. With a design inspired by Mesola Castle in north Italy’s province of Ferrara, this magnificent Italian handcrafted light display is lit by 103,000 bulbs and stands majestically at 20 meters tall – roughly the height of five double-decker buses. Mesola Castle is unique for its four towers that are positioned 45 degrees from the main building, giving the castle a distinct architectural shape. This feature is replicated in the design of the Spalliera.

2. GARDEN RHAPSODY & BLIZZARD TIME

Against the backdrop of the Spalliera, get spellbound during the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show, as the lights on the iconic Supertrees ‘dance’ to favourite Christmas classics. This will be followed by Blizzard Time with a wonderful experience of ‘snow’ in the tropics.

3. LIGHT DISPLAYS

Fresh from a magical voyage and docked at Christmas Wonderland for the holiday season is the Holly Roger ship with its crew of merry pirate elves. Illuminated by approximately 127,000 bulbs, this brand-new 24-metre-long whimsical light display is a sight to behold. 

More new captivating light displays can be found at Merry Lane presented by Trip.com, with installations such as giant snowflakes and Santa’s boot that will make quirky backdrops for your outfit of the day (OOTD).

4. WALK OF LIGHTS

With its kaleidoscopic installation of approximately 75,000 programmable LED lights strung across a 65-meter-long tunnel, this year’s edition of the Walk of Lights presented by CDG Zig is the longest ever. Be mesmerized by the myriad of colours from its programmable LED lights and be sure to have your camera ready for those IG-worthy shots.

6. FESTIVE DINING

Situated between Supertree Grove and Frosty’s Fairground is the newly created Gingerbread Grove, where you can delight your senses in a sweet experience. This quirky sugary-themed zone is a feast for the eyes with a vibrantly lit Gingerbread House set on a field of illuminated candy canes, as well as a pleasure for the palate with dessert stalls.

With twice the number of food outlets this year, you will be spoilt for choice with more treats than ever before. Featuring a variety of cuisine curated by some of Singapore’s popular food and beverage establishments, such as Burger & Lobster, Kebabs Faktory, and Sofnade there is something for everyone with 18 food and beverage outlets at the Supertree Grove and Frosty’s Fairground. More fun awaits at LumiLand, an illuminated playground where there are enchantingly lit seesaws, swings, and LED fixtures for the little ones to enjoy.
