Food Tasting At The Naked Fish Shoppe

| |
Hi Huneybees,

I was invited by OpenRice recently to have a food tasting session at The Naked Fish Shoppe. It is located at The Grassroots' Club. The boss - James Wong gave us a little introduction to the restaurant and the first thing we asked was, why "naked" fish?

He told us a story of how the word naked "stopped" traffic and so he decided to use Naked Fish to draw attention. What honest words...

As its name suggests, you can expect to find fresh catch here and under this warm and cozy setting, for a moment I was not in the bustling city life...

For starters, we had Calamari. This dish never fails to delight me. Being a fan of squids, this is definitely a dish I would order, but then again, the quantity might be too little for a serving...

The soup I had was the Lobster Bisque in Bread Bowl ($4.50). The soup was a tad salty for me, but when having it with the bread bowl, it was just nice. It's very filling and pretty much a meal on its own.

Other selections of soups are Chicken Soup and Mushroom Soup, you can also opt to have the soup without the brad bowl but garlic bread instead.

My choice of main course if the Boneless Whole Milk Fish Fillet - served with White Pepper Sauce ($16.80). I'm in love with the sauce and how fresh the fish is but one thing that was frustrating would have to be the scales of the fish. There were so much that in the end, I literally removed the skin and just ate the flesh. Also, the de-boning wasn't very clean, I still bit into a fish bone and injured my gum.

Overall I give it at 3 out of 5. The scaled and bone really turned me off.

Of course there's other main courses like the Pan-Fried Mahi Mahi Fish Fillet – served with lemon butter sauce ($14.80), Pan-Fried Marlin Fish Fillet – Sword fish fillet with White Pepper Sauce ($16.80) and Deep Sea Premium Grade Barramundi Fish Fillet – served with Lemon Butter Sauce ($16.80).

And lastly to end the meals, I had dessert, compliments from the owner. There was Honey Dew Pudding with Coconut Milk, Caramel Pudding and Mango Pudding. It was just a nice amount for a sweet ending, leaving you licking your spoons. My favourite would have to be the Caramel Pudding, it tasted a little like Creme Brulee...
