NIKE recently launched the NIKE x Undercover Gyakousou's S/S 2013 Collection in Singapore. It was done in the most unexpected fashion ever.
We gathered at Raffles Hotel before being brought downstairs to a welcome sight of trishaws. We were on a moving fashion walk to preview the collection!
We went around the Bugis area and it was fun to ride around in trishaw. It's been since primary school that I have rode in one. Along the way, we spotted some models in the NIKE collection, doing warm ups and jogging. Even though the weather was scorching hot, the models didn't sweat much coz of the breathable and lightweight materials of the apparels.
Interesting right?! But the joggers were a little too fast and I was glad when they were standing by when we arrived back at the hotel's ballroom. Here's more in depth introduction to the collection...
Originating from Jun Takahashi's desire to create the ideal running products for the marathon in Honolulu - NIKE X Undercover Gyakusou's philosophy has always been to find the perfect balance between style and functionality, in the same way as the "soulful runner" focuses on both the contemplative and performances sides of running.
The collection's trademark colour palette speaks to Jun's urban-rural accord with subtle city tones and natural hues which are popped this season by bright Mesa Orange, Lush Victory Green and Fuchsia Sangria Pin, reflecting the renowned vibrancy of Rio landscape.
In Rio de Janerio, the summer temperatures can get higher than 104 degrees and the Gyakusou runners battle the heat as they run through the city, parks, landmarks and lagoons. Withouth the weather combative equipment, they can never achieve that much.
The NIKE x Undercover Gyakusou S/S 2013 infuses Jun's less but better design philosophy with the latest NIKE innovations to present a technologically advanced line. I would say it is a very stylish line that is definitely suitable for Singapore's sweltering weather this season.
The men's collection has a signature wavy pattern that can be found on the tops and bottoms. One that I think is a must have is the Convertible Jacket.
It has detachable sleeves and it is super lightweight (almost weighing nothing). Do not fear that it will be warm wearing a jacket. It is totally breathable with the diamond-shaped open mesh on the back panels, with laser-cut ventilation holes, so that you can regulate your body temperature even in warm temparatures.
All the apparels from the men's collection comes with the light reflective Gyakusou logo and there are pockets everywhere for you to stash some money, keys, mobile and even energy gels!
There are 2 ranges in the men's collection, but I'm liking the orange/blue one above. The green one might be a little too camouflage for my liking. Both collection functions the same way, just that the designs are different.
The whole Gyakusou collection SS tops are structured around a base layer with no sew construction, minimizing friction for long distance runs. Moreover with the wavy designs, slimmer silhouette can be seen. :)
Now for the women's collection.
The women's collection with the season's broader selection of uniquely creafted pieces, moves away from the men's naturalistic shapes, sporting an iconic diamond panelling.
On the reverse side of the tops, is a rougher beehive material that allows the top not stick to your skin when you get all sweaty form the exercises.
The high performance, tunic style Lightweight Jacket fabrics mix, and the 2-in-1 shorts flat seam stitching provide no attribution and unrestrained movements, elevating the technology with cutting-edge style.
The tops has this stretchable material around the armpit, so that you can stretch with no restrain. |
