British Cuisine At Royal Mail @ Ascott

Hi Huneybees,

Fancy some English cuisine? Check out the The Royal Mail Restaurant & Bar at The Ascott Serviced Apartments! Just like its name, you are treated like royals and you would not be finding any Fish & Chips here.

I've been told of their great ambience and it was definitely a cozy setting at the restaurant. You climb a winding flight of stairs that will lead you to the restaurant on the second floor and it was like a royal dining hall when you enter.

We had a couple of appetizers before going on to the main dish. My favourite would have to be the Pan-Seared Foie Gras with fried camembert cheese and riesling. I'm normally not a huge fan of the Foie Gras as it can taste pretty funky, but this one was done to the right sweetness and I actually finished it all!

There was also the octopus served with wasabi dressing. It was tender and juicy, and went well with the dressing but wasn't that suppose to be Japanese cuisine?

We also had some side dishes and one of which is the Creamy Truffle Oil Mashed Potatoes. I loved it alot but as it was getting a little sinful after a few bites, definitely something you would want to share.

There was also Deboned Fish of the day, with a soft pinch of lemon and olive oil, the freshness of the sea bass was brought out.  The best part of it was that it was deboned, saved the ugly sight of you pulling out fish bones!

For main dish, I opted for the signature Roast Prime Rib, a classic cut 280g slab of beef with Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and veal gravy. Unfortunately, there was a delay in the serving and the beef tasted a tad bit too cold and chewy for me.

There was also the BBQ beef short ribs! It was sweet, very juicy, but this little bit, might not be enough to satisfy me... Hehehe...

The hidden star of the menu, had to be the Kurobuta Pork Chop with apples. As compared to the beef, the pork chop was firm, not tough, no fatty bits and it went great with the apples and sauce. This should be their signature instead!

But the fun part comes during dessert time. Nothing is stopping this girl from her sweets! They always say we have an extra stomach for desserts eh?

The Eton Mess was something I was looking forward to. This was a dish traditionally served at Eton College's annual cricket game since the 19th century. Served in a shot glass with light devon cream thrown in together with strawberries, hazelnut crunch and meringue bits. I am definitely not sharing this!

The Banoffee Tart was highly recommended. If you are fans of banana, you would want to end your lovely night with this little tart-let.

Overall the Royal Mail is an excellent place for date night and enjoy the fine dining with your partners, away from the city buzz. You can even have a drink a the bar downstairs afterwards. :)
