18 new labels at PARCO next NEXT

| |
Hi Huneybees,

PARCO next Next at Millenia Walk has unveiled their latest intake of 18 new local designers - 20:TWOTHREE, 2HB, alexandria chen, ANGELIA, ash, Episene, evenodd, FOON FOONO, Foreword, Kae Hana, LION EARL, MASH-UP, Mils, QUAINTHOOD, RÊVASSEUR, Saloni Rathor, Wil.Liam Atelier and WSDM.
"We want to put forward a good mix of designers, covering a broad range. Each year that we have done this project, we discover new design talents who may have the means to launch their own labels but who, with the right opportunities and nurturing, have what it takes to succeed. The industry can be a hard one to break into, but to secure the future of Singapore fashion, we need to pave the way for fresh and new talent to0 come on board and flourish." --- Mr David Wang, Chairman of AFF Singapore Committee

There are a collection of male and female (sometimes unisex) clothings and accessories and they are already the 3rd batch of designers to be introduced. Remember the photo I took with a bunch of designers at the BLUEPRINT event earlier on? Well, they are some of them and here are more....

20:TWOTHREE
Cousins Genevieve and Jamie Goh present 20:TWOTHREE, an androgynous fashion label for both men and women, that they have developed with a cheeky disregard for taught rules.

The duo’s first foray into fashion started in 2008 with a small online store that sold apparel, before they decided to give designing a go. Neither has formal fashion schooling but they experiment instead to churn out creations that have evolved from their own interpretations and definitions of fashion design.

What results are timeless shapes and a clever play with geometry and draping that transcend genders and body proportions.

2HB

The idea for the name 2HB came about when designer Rick Hung was sketching out a design using a 2HB pencil - the “middle ground” in pencil grading.

Extending this idea into his label, Hung similarly hopes to court lovers of practical fashion who embrace wearability, but without any compromise on style.

Look out for a collection of smart threads that span everyday wear to formal wear, always with a dash of attitude to reflect the wearer’s personality.

alexandria chen

Alexandria Chen infuses the colours, forms, lines and textures of modern art into the designs of her eponymous casual womenswear label.

The integration of art and fashion yields elegant pieces that take the wearer from day to night effortlessly. Seeking to cultivate confidence in the wearer, Chen designs dressy, form-fitting pieces that will flatter any body shape.

ANGELIA

Sisters Zen and Angela Tan are behind ANGELIA’s range of dresses. The label exudes an air of youth and hopes to captivate modern, career-minded women seeking a quick style fix.

The designs have sleek, streamlined shapes, clean lines and a minimalist sensibility. Designer Zen Tan, studied Fashion Design in LASALLE College of the Arts and was a finalist for the Singapore Young Fashion Designer Contest in 2005.

ash
Helmed by former professional secretary Alison Ash Lee and personal shopper Jack Joash Lim, ash interprets the myriad experiences of love in a woman’s life played out through fashion. Its range of simple yet elegant work wear target women who are modern and independent but hold on to their love of everything feminine.

Each piece comes from the heart, and boasts interesting details and unconventional fabric combinations that flatter the petite Asian frame.

Episene

Behind Episene is designer Lee Yun Ting, who draws influence for her designs from art, history and philosophy to bring elements of the past and present together.

A firm advocate of individualism and expression, Lee designs pieces that are strong, bold and compelling.
The pieces in her womenswear collection are intentionally androgynous, and each has a different twist - such as a tailored jacket with draping detail - that allows the wearer to express her unique personality.

evenodd

Stylist, photographer and a self-taught designer, Samuel Wong, heads menswear label evenodd. His pieces are inspired by the prim and proper style of gentlemen from days of yore and reinterpreted with a contemporary twist. Wong, with his eye for detail, pays particular attention to the cut and construction of his garments. He hand-picks all the materials and trimmings, down to the buttons used.

Barely a year old, evenodd has already made waves - Wong was invited to showcase at Singapore’s inaugural Men’s Fashion Week 2011 and has dressed celebrities that include actor Nat Ho. His label has also been featured in one of Japan’s leading fashion blogs, TokyoDandy.com, and several Singapore publications.

FOON FOONO

FOON FOONO is a leather accessory label by Singapore-based visual artist Foon. Inspired by Takashi Murakami's collaboration with Louis Vuitton, FOON presents a line of leather bags, wallets and key rings that are as beautiful as they are functional.

FOON strives to apply the same philosophy he adopts in his artwork to his label, FOON FOONO: be simple, yet provocative. Foon specializes in digital fine art and his artwork has been featured in several art and design publications including Epicure, Switch, Space and Blueprint Asia. In the last seven years, he has participated in various art exhibitions around the world, including Burning Man Art Festival. This is his first foray into the fashion industry.

Foreword

Foreword, a range of ready-to-wear womenswear and accessories, is the creation of fashion marketing graduate Evelyn Ang and IT professional Pearly Wee.

The designs have a predominant focus on loose, relaxed silhouettes made with light fabrics and offer ease of style for active women on the go. Foreword encourages chic, fuss-free elegance and aims to inspire confidence in their consumers through their carefully constructed collection.

Kae Hana

Kae Hana is a ready-to-wear womenswear label with a focus on exclusive prints produced by the designer herself as well as other local fine artists. The pieces in her collection subtly pair art and style while making it suitable for daily wear.

QUAINTHOOD

QUAINTHOOD is a contemporary fashion label for women by Temasek Design School graduate and former air stewardess, Joy Ng. The label is not just about fashion, it is a lifestyle, attitude, and expression — a voice for the contrary.

The pieces blend a street-wear edge with chic sensibilities, resulting in looks that are fresh and yet hold a certain dark undertone. Classic shirts and dresses are redefined by Ng’s sharp take on shapes and tailored cuts.

RÊVASSEUR

RÊVASSEUR, which means ‘daydreamer’ in French, is a mix of whimsical and avant garde designs with strong silhouettes and a dash of texture and print aiming to put the fun back into fashion and encourages its wearers to experiment.

The label was established by Gilda Su while she was studying at Japan’s Bunka Fashion College in 2005, before she went on to complete a degree at Parsons the New School of Design. Her thesis collection was displayed at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, as well as Parsons’ Annual Benefit Gala.

Saloni Rathor

Helming Saloni Rathor, a womenswear label offering ready-to-wear pieces for both day and night, is Saloni Shrestha, a self-taught designer hailing from the Himalayas.

Inspired by the rich culture and intricate art of the east, each collection delicately infuses Asian aesthetics into the modern world of fashion through details such as beading and prints. It adds distinctive touches to simple, timeless designs.

Wil.LiaM Atelier

Created by William Chong, Wil.LiaM Atelier is a label for the polished corporate woman. Inspired by architecture, he juxtaposes the clean lines of tailoring with Asian elements such as wrap details and asymmetrical hemlines.

Chong’s eye for detail and his sensitivity towards the technicalities of design, sees him paying particular attention to the workmanship and tailoring of every piece.

WSDM

WSDM (We Seek DiscernMent) is a premium streetwear concept label founded by husband-and-wife team, Abel Lim and Riane Toh. WSDM produces simple, classic pieces with an unconventional twist such as leather trims on an otherwise plain button-down shirt.
