Rurouni Kenshin Is Set To Make A Comeback This July 2023

Hi Huneybees,

Yes! The 90s is back and it's time for a Rurouni Kenshin
 reboot.
With over 72 million copies of the comic series sold and a total box office revenue of 19.3 billion yen from the live-action movie series, the legendary masterpiece loved by all generations worldwide, the legendary Battousai with the iconic cross scar - Rurouni Kenshin is coming back to life as a brand-new TV anime in July 2023!

The Rurouni Kenshin manga is a Shonen classic series that debuted in 1994 in the Weekly Shonen Jump and was adapted into an anime in 1996 while the manga was still publishing. Since then, it has undergone numerous developments, from OVAs to theatrical releases, and now with Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc serializing in Jump SQ.

This long-awaited work aims to reconstruct the original story from the first episode using the latest animation technology, to create a Rurouni Kenshin anime that will appeal to current anime fans. With Linden Films helming the production, talented staff such as director Hideyo Yamamoto (Strike the Blood) and Hideyuki Kurata (Made in Abyss) for series composition were gathered, and the cast members are also renewed, with Soma Saito in the role of Kenshin Himura.

Last weekend, I caught the fan screening of the first 4 episodes at Shaw Theatres Lido. The story was very much what I used to watch, but one can see the animation greatly enhanced, especially with the fight scenes being more smooth.

For those who have not watched Rurouni Kenshin before, the story is set ten years after the Bakumatsu era, an era of a raging war that was caused by citizens uprising against the Tokugawa shogunate. Any kind of arm is banned, but murder often happens in the street. Orphans and veterans are scattered here and there, while the new government is busy filling their pockets with money. Though the uprising was a success and a new era of Meiji began, peace was greatly desired.

So, comes along a samurai - Kenshin Himura, who wanders around the streets. In the past, he was called Hitokori Battousai (Sword-drawing Manslayer), because of his role in slaying hundreds of enemies in war. Now, he vows not to kill again, going to fights with a Sakabato (Reverse-Blade Sword).
In the 11th year of Meiji, Kenshin meets Kaoru Kamiya, owner of a small dojo that is threatened to be close down. After interfering with the threats and staying on to protect, the story unfolds...

I can't wait for this new Rurouni Kenshin anime series to make its grand debut on screens worldwide. I'll be updating more once I have more information.
