Hi Huneybees,
Happy New Year to you guys! Have ya been to Chinatown? I'm so glad I caught this performance at the last moment. It's a performance that you normally only get to see during the Singapore Arts Festival, and more suprisingly, it popped up in Chinatown when everyone's doing their CNY shopping!
I must say that has brought another meaning to going to Chinatown! I hope they do come back again next year with another spectacular performance!
Here's a little intro about Strange Fruit and you can find them at this website --> http://www.strangefruit.net.au/
"Strange Fruit is a Melbourne-based performing arts company that produces and performs a remarkable style of work that fuses theatre, dance and circus, using a unique elevated medium.
Perched atop 5-metre high flexible poles of original design, the troupe delivers a sublime performance, bending and swaying in the air, captivating and engaging the audience in absolute fascination.
Originally based on the image of a field of wheat swaying in the breeze, the poles' extreme strength and flexibility allow the performer to bow to impossible angles, swaying back and forth in a hypnotising dance as the audience looks up in wonder.
With a world-renowned repertoire that celebrates a wide variety of themes and stories, the company has achieved near-cult status in almost every continent across the globe. Performing regularly at festivals, special events and private functions, their sublime, hypnotic beauty is truly remarkable and must be experienced to appreciate its full effect. "
The Spheres is one of a few piece the group performs. It's takes an interesting look at birth and human's relationship with our planet. Each sphere contains different characters and how they act differently when "hatched"...
Okok, I shall not "talk" anymore, here are some pictures I took at the performance.
And lastly, 2 videos I took of the performance. I had to break them up due to a phone call in between. Enjoy and do support the art scene in Singapore, so that more of such performances can come by.
Muahz,
Christina aka Huney
