Did you played Tennis on Orchard Road last Saturday?

Hi Huneybees,

On Saturday, 4th October 2014, Orchard Road was closed from 6pm - 11pm , making way for the inaugural Pedestrian Night on Orchard Road!

What is that you may asked? Well, its the initiative is spearheaded by Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) and supported by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to inject new favor to the iconic shopping stretch of Singapore.

Taking the central stage of the inaugural event is the Tennis Pops Up @ Orchard Road, which transform the stretch will be between Scotts Road and Bideford Road stretch into a tennis extravaganza! This was held in anticipation of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore presented from 17-26 October.

Stretch of Orchard Road was closed in preparation for the tennis extravaganza!
Tennis Rackets and Balls were made available at each make-shift tennis courts for public to experience tennis on Orchard Road!

At around 7:30pm, the barricades that parameter the closed area welcomed both curious and eager public whom have been wondering along the barricades as early as 6pm.

Curious and eager public like this one (5 players playing!) spontaneously started playing tennis with the rackets and balls available at each make-shift tennis courts.
Assistance from the staff and parent respectively to the boys on the game of tennis
Initially there was a sense of chaotic when a few kids and adults-alike rushed to pick up the available tennis rackets on the "courts" and started hitting the balls all over the place. Fortunately staffs on duty quickly took control of the situation by guiding the players on the rules and technique of the game.

Here are some pictures of a tennis clinic ran in parallel for our future tennis stars.

I'm looking forward to the next Pedestrian Night on Orchard Road happening on 1st November, where participants can expect to practice with a renowned global yoga instructor and enjoy performances delivered by a roster of local musicians and talents!

Members of the public can email pedestriannight@orchardroad.org to share their feedback and suggestions for other events for the initiative.
