Hi Huneybees,

Singapore (May 7, 2013) – Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) successfully concluded the end of their third annual Global Month of Service. A total of 405 partners and customers from Starbucks Singapore came together to volunteer at the National Youth Council Academy Green to create Singapore’s first urban farm. Done in partnership with ComCrop over two meaningful and fun-filled weekends on April 20, 21, 27 and 28, the event achieved a total of 1,822.5 service hours.
The Starbucks Global Month of Service initiative aims to bring partners, customers and community organizations together around the world to participate in partner-led service projects that address local community needs. This year, we have a goal of 2,700 partner-led projects globally with 75,000 volunteers.
In Singapore, volunteers – comprising partners and customers – participated in a comprehensive program, where they learnt more about urban farming in theory first, after which they were actively involved in setting up of the farm. Volunteers prepared and installed an Aquaponics system  to harvest the plants at the open field outside the National Youth Council Academy, and keen Starbucks volunteers were also invited back to help out in the operations of the showcase module. All food grown by the system will be donated to beneficiaries selected by Starbucks.
The Starbucks Global Month of Service, with the support of partners, customers and community organizations, will help achieve a 25% increase in participation from 2012. The cumulative reach of these projects will help Starbucks move toward one of its global responsibility goals of providing one million hours of community service by 2015. Starbucks Global Month of Service, which runs throughout April, is expected to inspire over 300,000 hours of service, by more than 75,000 volunteers, through 2,700 projects, across 40 countries around the globe. They achieved a total of 1,822.5 service hours, up from 1,733 hours last year.
