AFF 2013 - Sony Fashion Photography workshop

| |
Hi Huneybees,

I am so glad to be selected for the exclusive Sony Fashion Photography workshop held at the Temasek Suites@The Pit Building on the last day of AFF2013; Sunday, 19th May 2013.

It was an great opportunity to learn tips and tricks on fashion photography from Adrian Jiun and Joel Lim, two of Singapore's very best fashion photographers!

Adrian Jiun started the workshop by confessing his love for stop-motion and how it became a key element for his latest work - Dismantled Motion - which was shown at the AFF "Moments in Styles" Exhibition.

One of Adrian's works titled "Dismantled Motion"
He derived his inspiration by watching numerous animations from one of his favourite stop-motion animators, the influential Quay Brothers. He even invited 3 audiences to the stage to create a short stop-motion film using the Sony camera, to demonstrate how it was being done.

His tips and tricks for those who wanted to venture in fashion photography:
1. Work with model agencies for rental of models
2. go online in search for young and inspiring stylist and makeup artists to collabrate
3. get client contacts
4. conceptualise your shot

Joel Lim shared his journey of how he switched from a lucrative job of a banker two years ago to becoming a top fashion photographer. It started with a dream of wanting to become a National Geographic photographer at a tender age.
Joel shared some of his earlier days' works
His suggestion to wannabe fashion photographers was to familarise with their camera by shooting regularly and to focus on composition. The easiest way, in his opinion, is to use a prime lens, instead of zoom lens, as an execise for framing shots.
Among other tips that he shared were invalueable reading resources that he has gathered from internet and libraries over the years.

This event was organised by Sony Singapore, the Official Digital Imaging partner of AFF2013.
