‘Cookies for Charity’ Programme @ Chinatown

Hi Huneybees,

Leading up to Chinese New Year, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore’s (APBS) held their annual ‘Cookies for Charity’ Programme and it came to a close last week, with over $20,000 raised to support the needy elderly. The funds raised will go towards the vital Meal & Grocery Programme created by Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Constituency, to ensure that the needy elderly living in the constituency are able to eat more regular and nutritious meals.

“We are extremely proud to have yet another successful run of the ‘Cookies for Charity Programme’ this year and remain grateful to every individual and member of the community that has contributed to the cause. The success of this initiative has certainly added to this year’s memorable Lunar New Year celebrations, one that our staff continue to support through their participation and involvement, demonstrating our company’s philosophy of Doing Well and Doing Good.” ---  Alina Boey, Head of Corporate Communications, APBS .

This year, APBS joined hands with local celebrities, Irene Ang and Rosalyn Lee to promote sales of the cookies at the APBS booth at the Chinese New Year Celebrations Festive Street Bazaar in Chinatown.

Both artists were present earlier this evening, encouraging and entertaining the public to spread the Lunar New Year cheer and raise funds for the campaign. They were joined by local Chinese-language television serial actors, Zhu Hou Ren and Huang Shi Nan.

Visitors to the APBS booth were also treated to a surprise Tiger Beer Lion Dance that performed to the global phenomenon, "Gangnam Style" as part of the routine.

With local artists, street performances and APBS’s Cookies for Charity Programme, APBS has been immersed in festive cheer over the past two months, bringing joy and celebration to the community in Kreta Ayer.

“Being a part of the ‘Cookies for Charity’ Programme was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Everything from interacting with the elderly folk, to working the crowds in Chinatown made me nostalgic about the community, not to mention the delight one receives from bringing joy to others." ---  Irene Ang

While the ‘Cookies for Charity’ programme has come to a close this year, Tiger Beer sales at the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations Festive Street Bazaar, held between People’s Park Complex and OG Chinatown (in front of Chinatown MRT station), continue till 11.00pm on Saturday 9 February 2013.

In celebration of the successful conclusion of the ‘Cookies for Charity’ programme and to further demonstrate the company’s appreciation of their participation, 60 elderly folk from the Kreta Ayer community will be hosted at a “Grannies’ Day Out” lunch, where the special guests will be treated to a sumptuous lunch at Violet Oon’s Kitchen at 881 Bukit Timah Road, on 15 February 2013. Celebrity Chef Violet Oon will be preparing special recipes for them, and will also be present to greet and dine with them.
