Let's Lepak at Mount Faber !!!

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Last Saturday, 6 August 2016, I spent an amazing time up on Mount Faber for the inaugural edition of 'Let's Lepak at Mount Faber'.

*'Lepak' means loafing around in Malay, our Singlish version for 'chillax'.

Organised by Mount Faber Leisure Group through the ‘Streets for People’ initiative, and supported by NParks, ‘Let’s Lepak at Mount Faber’ is aligned towards Singapore’s push to become a “car-lite” city. This first edition is also curated by partners ActiveSG and LopeLab, the event was also part of the GetActive! Singapore campaign, and showcased activities relating to the theme of Sports and Wellness, coupled with music and art elements.

The car-free zone is created along Mount Faber Loop’s 800m stretch of road, from Mount Faber Park Car Park D (near Danish Seamen’s Church) to the junction near Faber Bistro.  The main road going up to Mount Faber from Kampong Bahru Road will remain open. Public car parks A, B, C and D will also remain open.

Mount Faber Loop is a 3-minute walk from Faber Peak. Alternatively, the public can take a scenic walk across Henderson Waves to Mount Faber Loop.

Ms. Low Yen Ling, Mayor of South West District was the Guest-of-Honour and she kicked-off the event by participating in the new GetActive! Singapore workout. Lots of families brought their friends and families along to join in the workout, take in the fresh air, amidst the music and activities.

Other than the workout, there was recycled crafts workshop and also local traditional games to play with. It was a nice interaction session for the older generations to show how the games are played, keeping our attention away from Pokémon GO for a while.

Artwork by Colours In Motion, combining art painting with dance.
It was an afternoon full of laughter and fun. After the event, I even went on a little walk around Mount Faber to take in the scenic views and for those who wana venture more, the Henderson Waves Bridge is round the bend and that will take you to Hort Park too! It makes such a great workout session and perhaps Pokémon hunting session.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next edition, wonder what they will be planning...
Let’s Lepak at Mount Faber’ is on trial for three months and the next instalment will be on 3 September and the final event on 1 October.

If you are interested in joining in the next installment, you can opt to ‘fly’ to the park in the Singapore Cable Car, from Harbourfront MRT to the cable car station at Harbourfront Tower 2, for the cable car ride to Mount Faber Station located in Faber Peak.

Of course, other than going for the 'Let's Lepak at Mount Faber', there's also tons of other happenings up on Mount Faber. There are dining destinations like Spuds & Aprons, Faber Bistro or even dine within the cable car for a romantic evening; or, go ring the giant Bell of Happiness, buy and hang a pair of wishing bells for blessings!

Also, the Cable Car Sky Network has expanded to included the new Sentosa Line that travels to 3 major attraction clusters across Sentosa, so that you can access Fort Siloso, Singapore Cable Car Museum, Madam Tussauds, Skyline Luge Sentosa, The Merlion, etc, at ease, whilst enjoying the above-it-all scenic views.

With this seamless connection, you are just one cable car Sky Pass away from enjoying both Faber Peak Singapore and Sentosa! If you frequently visit these places, maybe you can consider the Faber licence too!

You can get double the benefits and privileges across 2 fabulous destinations from just $0.10 a day! With the Faber Licence annual membership, you get to enjoy unlimited joyrides and exclusive privileges for dining and shopping at Faber Peak Singapore. You can also double the treat with unlimited access to Sentosa for more island fun. Individual memberships are $39 per year and family memberships are $135 per year for up to four family members!

See you there!

Where To Go To Avoid The Jubilee Weekend Crowd Without Denting Your SG50 Celebratory Mood

Hi Huneybees,

Jubilee Weekend is finally here and I have noticed many people are still in discussion on how to spend this long weekend. As such, I have decided write a quick guide on where you should and should not go to celebration SG50 this holiday.

Where You Should Not Go

Forget about going to the much talked about National Museums or Heritage Galleries just because you wanted to take advantage of the free admission from 7 to 10 August for all visitors, Singaporean and Foreigners alike. Seriously, why would you want to queue long hours under today's unpredictable weather to go into our museums during this period to be pushed and/or shoved by others to move forward while you are trying to enjoy the arts or antiquities on display?

Same goes for Singapore Botanic Gardens if you wish to participate in one of the three-day carnival and a range of performances from 7 to 9 August. Activities include a carnival, free concerts at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage and Bandstand, as well as free outdoor movie screenings may sounds fun but imagine the lost of tranquility and scenic view with the expected horde of visitors trying to have a piece of this newly inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Last but not least, don't ever think of crossing the causeway if you haven't done that by now cause it would certainly be too late unless you could live with hours of long jams going to and returning from Malaysia.

Where You Should Go

#1 ActiveSG Sport Complexes - 7th - 10th August

One way to truly enjoy the Jubilee Weekend would be to spend bonding time with your friends or family through sporting activities. With 23 ActiveSG swimming pools and 15 ActiveSG Gyms island wide, you don't have to travel far and be squeezed like sardines in expected pack trains towards city center to enjoy the free access to these facilities from 7 to 10 August for all Singapore Citizens and PRs.
Not just that, Active SG put up fun-filled activities, including meeting Singapore Sporting Heroes from Team Singapore on 7th August, at five Sports Centres around the island for the family while for the more adventurous Huneybees, you might want to go for a free tryout on all 50 different sporting activities.
Do check out ActiveSG Jubilee Weekend Page for updated schedule on these fantastic activities.

#2 NPark Family Picnic - 7th August

How about having a memorable family picnic on 7th Aug at any of the three NParks - Pasir Ris (East), Sembawang (North), and West Coast (West) to kickstart the Jubilee Weekend Celebrations? It is expected to be a day of fun-filled activities co-organised by NParks and Families for Life (FFL) at all three parks, such as the first-ever outdoor screening of Disney's 'Frozen Sing-A-Long' (movie will be screened with lyrics of every song) at Sembawang Park, Shrek' and 'Madagascar' screening at Pasir Ris Park and West Coast Park are 'respectively.

#3 Esplanade's national Day Celebrations - 6th - 10th August

If you insist on soaking the Jubilee Weekend atmosphere around Marina Bay Waterfront, why not double soak yourself to the arts, music and dance performances at the Esplanade's National Day Celebrations?
Over this significant weekend, enjoy a wide range of free programmes presented by Singapore artists as Esplanade welcomes people from all walks of life with the main highlight being The Concert Hall playing host to a special selection of free performances on 8 Aug (1pm, 3pm, 6:15pm & 8:15pm), where the audience will be able to see the hall's acoustic features being tuned to each performance.
Click here for more information on the upcoming events of the Esplanade's National Day Celebrations.

#4 The Fullerton Hotel - 7th - 9th August

Fancy a cozy chill out place as part of your Jubilee Weekend celebration plan? The Courtyard @ The Fullerton Hotel, located in the sunlit atrium lobby of the luxury hotel, might be the perfect place for you and your family or friends to enjoy a light meal or an elegant cocktail while be serenaded by live music in the afternoon or memorized by the rhythms of the jazz quartet in the evening.

While at the hotel do check out the art piece created in celebration of SG50, located at the entrance of the Hotel. It is made of blooms of red carnation, white pom poms and orchids, together with Green Moss and Limited Edition SG50 Plush bears. The custom designed cute SG50 Plush bear is available for purchase at $22 each at The Fullerton Shop, so grab them while stock last!

Also do remember to cross over to One Fullerton to catch the "A Celebration of Our Heritage", 8-minute long music and video extravaganza on the facade of the heritage rich hotel, which starts at 8pm until 9th of August. Do check out my recent blog post on Let's Celebrate Our Heritage Through A Spectacular High-tech Visual Showcase At Fullerton for more detail on the show.

Wishing all Huneybees in Singapore a memorable Jubilee Weekend and Happy National Day.
