Singapore Comic Con 2024: A Weekend of Cosplay, Collectibles, and Pure Fandom Energy

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Singapore Comic-Con 2024 (SGCC 2024) just wrapped up; and what a wild, wallet-emptying, geek-tastic weekend it was! From mind-blowing cosplay and exclusive merch drops to celebrity meet-and-greets and interactive creator zones, this year’s edition truly had something for every kind of fan.

Powered once again by TikTok, returning as the Title Sponsor for the second year in a row, SGCC 2024 was buzzing with energy both online and off. The platform’s signature interactivity spilled right into the halls with TikTok creators drawing throngs of fans, indie artists showcasing their comics, and creators bringing the digital community to life IRL. It was a geek’s fever dream, and I was all in for it.

Tokidoki Encounters & Fandom Feels

As die-hard pop culture lovers, my hubby and I never miss SGCC... it’s our annual tradition! And as loyal Tokidoki fans, we made a beeline for Simone Legno’s booth. He brought along his stunning Godzilla sofubi figures this year, though sadly the colourway I wanted was available only for preorder (which meant no autograph for me 😢). We hesitated — twice! — before deciding to save that splurge for another day.

Merch Madness Galore

The merch this year? Absolutely insane! From limited editions to adorable collectibles, it was every collector’s dream (and every wallet’s nightmare 😅).

Blokees had their exclusive Transformers figures — but they sold out early in the morning before I could even blink! Over at Mighty Jaxx, I was completely spellbound; every piece was so irresistibly cute that I wanted to take the entire display home with me.

And if you’re a Funko Pop fan, you’d have squealed just like I did! They unveiled a new line of mini Funko figures that come in their own little display boxes. Some even featured themed sets — like the Hogwarts School setup, where you can arrange your Harry Potter minis classroom-style. It’s basically a chibi-sized dream come true for collectors short on shelf space.

Adding to the excitement, Disney brought major magic to the show floor with a gorgeous booth promoting their upcoming Disney Cruise and the Disney Store pop-up. Honestly, it felt like a mini Disneyland right there at Basement 2 — pure nostalgia and pixie dust all around!

Celebrities, Cosplayers, and Creator Chaos

If you still think TikTok is all about dance trends and food hacks, SGCC 2024 proved otherwise. The convention floor was star-studded with creators and cosplayers who had fans lining up for selfies, shoutouts, and interactive games.

Leading the charge was none other than Rurusama - Singapore’s cosplay queen, SGCC’s first-ever official ambassador, and honestly, a whole mood. Fans could book paid fan-service sessions ranging from a whispered compliment to a dramatic kabedon! She was joined by fellow local celebs like Zermatt Neo (Singapore’s unstoppable foodie champion) and TikTok sensation Satoyu, among others.

Over at the TikTok booth in Creators Con (B2), the energy was off the charts. Fans queued for live quizzes, TikTok challenges, and creator meetups, all while soaking in the interactive setup. I wish I had more time to catch all the visiting creators from around Asia (@greapaxcherri and @donguk2da from Korea, @asamlambunk and @mrag_agung from Indonesia, @lythanhco from Vietnam, and @jamie.417 and @anzhao.1202 from Taiwan) but the crowds were relentless, and my camera roll was already bursting from the merch haul. Maybe next year I’ll pick their brains for TikTok growth tips too! 😅

Cosplay Magic Everywhere

Of course, no Comic-Con is complete without the cosplayers. SGCC 2024 absolutely sparkled with creativity... from intricate armour builds to jaw-dropping LED effects. Every corner of the hall was a photo opportunity waiting to happen.

One highlight for me? A fellow fan I met while queueing for Simone’s autograph, who had Studio Ghibli–themed nail art so elaborate it deserved its own exhibit. From Totoro to No-Face, her nails (and her friends') were pure Ghibli magic. Proof that fandom love can be expressed down to the fingertips!

Fueling Up (and Snacking Hard)

Between long queues and non-stop shopping, I barely had time to eat. But I did manage to snag a few delicious finds! I grabbed a Mr Merlion ice cream giveaway for new followers (who can say no to free dessert?) and gave in to Toast Box’s special wizardry-themed drinks that came complete with magical packaging that was way too pretty to resist.

And because no SGCC trip is complete without a treat (or two), I brought home Beard Papa’s SGCC-exclusive cream puffs. Their “Blood Moon” (cookies & cream red eclair puff) and “Mystic Forest” (Black Forest cream in a black cookie puff shell) were every bit as indulgent as they sound.

Tabletop Arena Adventures

Over at the Tabletop Gaming Arena, things were just as intense in a quieter, dice-rolling kind of way. Rows upon rows of tables were filled with players immersed in Warhammer 40K, One Piece, Star Wars card games, and more. Vendors had shelves of shiny new decks, paints, and minis to tempt even the most disciplined of collectors. I followed a few friends into their TCG rabbit hole… and let’s just say, I might be halfway there myself now.

SGCC 2024 wasn’t just an event! It was a full-blown celebration of creativity, community, and all things geek. Whether you came for the cosplayers, the collectibles, the creators, or just to be surrounded by people who get it, Comic-Con once again delivered the ultimate pop culture experience.

Now, as I unpack my loot (and figure out where on earth to display everything), I’m already counting down to SGCC 2025. If you’re as hyped as I am, make sure to follow the official Singapore Comic-Con website and their Instagram for updates. See you next year, heroes! 💫
