Here are some fact sheets on the Chengdu Pambassador 2012 competition:
Objective of the competition The goal of Chengdu Pambassador 2012 is to promote awareness of long-term, sustainable development plans for increasing the panda population.
The three phases of the competition are designed to deepen contestants’ panda conservation knowledge, to test their ability to share the conservation message, and to bring their focus to wild habitat preservation.
Phase 1: Facebook campaign

Activities:
Participants are invited to access the Chengdu Pambassador app on the official Facebook page (www. chengdupambassador.com) to complete a series of Panda Quests. The more quests the participants complete, the higher their total score will be. - The first quest is to create a profile with a personal statement
- Additional quests, such as "panda-fying" their cover photo, can be done by participants to complete their profile
- Participants must then invite friends to vote for their profile

Phase 2: Regional semi-final competition in Singapore

Activities:
The Asia-Pacific semi-final competition will take place in Singapore. During the competition, 24 participants will need to prove themselves worthy of becoming an ambassador for panda conservation. To do this, they will compete in a series of challenges that will test their endurance, creativity and their knowledge of and passion for giant pandas.
Outcome:
Scoring will be on a point-based system. The four contestants with the highest scores will become finalists and will join finalists from three other major regions (China, North America and Europe) to compete at the finals in Chengdu.

Activities:
The four finalists from each region (16 total contestants) will have a three-week, one-of-a-kind hands-on experience with Chengdu pandas, learning all the facets of panda rehabilitation and conservation. At the end of their experience, participants will go into the wild to explore the best ways to re-introduce pandas into their natural habitat.
Outcome:
From the 16 finalists, three will be crowned official Chengdu Pambassadors for one year. They will have the opportunity to participate in a "Global Panda Protection Tour" in 2013, visiting pandas in 11 countries and promoting the conservation message to local communities. Each of the three Chengdu Pambassadors will receive a USD 20,000 prize.

Sponsored by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or Chengdu Panda Base, and co-sponsored by WildAid and the Yao Ming Foundation, Chengdu Pambassador is a global program offering panda lovers around the world the chance to become a "panda ambassador" (or Pambassador) for a year. Winners stand a chance to win USD20,000 and go on a “Global Panda Protection Tour” in 2013, a globe-trotting experience to visit pandas hosted in 11 countries and initiate local activities to raise awareness for endangered animal protection.
