Diving into the Web3 World: My First TOKEN2049 Experience

| |

Hi Huneybees,

Yup, that's me and hubby in the Web3 world.

So, let’s chat about NFTs, Web3, and cryptocurrency! My hubby has been diving into this world, and honestly, all I can wrap my head around is that it involves virtual art and virtual money that we can't physically touch. It feels so foreign to me! Last year, I tagged along to the BoredApe Fest in Hong Kong, but I mostly treated it as a vacation instead of really soaking up the events. So, this time around, I asked my hubby to take me to some events at TOKEN2049 so I could finally peek behind the curtain of this "mysterious" world.

Our first stop was the Pudgy Penguins event, where they unveiled a new trading card game set to go online soon. I learned how to play, snagged an exclusive deck card (which I got autographed by the artist—how cool is that?), and snapped some fun pics. But I still found myself wondering, “Where does the Web3 feature come in?”

Next up was The Doodles event, which my hubby is really into and the one I actually recognized! I've admired Scott Martin's artwork since his illustration days, so when hubby mentioned he was getting his NFT, I was all in for it. They showcased Dullsville and the Doodlesverse - a fantastic animation directed by @burnttoast (aka Scott Martin), produced by Doodles’ creative studio, Golden Wolf, with a soundtrack by Pharrell Williams. It clicked for me: Web3 is about helping creators earn more moolah, connect with fans, and unleash their art!

Then came the highlight of the night—a party at Marquee organized by EVG, Berachain, and OKX Wallet. I mean, these are some big names, right? They even had three DJs, including DJ SODA! The line was ridiculously long, and once we got in, the place was packed with energy. The music was pumping, and while I was soaking it all in, I realized that Web3 really opens up networking opportunities—though good luck hearing anything over that bass!

The whole experience was a whirlwind of fun, but by the end of the first night, I was left with even more questions about the Web3 universe. I think I even dozed off while chatting about it with hubby! We ended up hitting more events through the week , hosted by Bored Ape Yacht Club, Sui Wallet, Solana, Claynosaurz, and more. It was party hopping, event after event, I even got to see Steve Aoki perform live—what a treat!

Meeting new people was great, but I often found myself hanging back, trying to wrap my head around everything. From what I gather, it seems like a lot of projects are on the lookout for investors, and buying NFTs and trading cryptocurrency is a lot like stock trading—more involvement means better returns, right? (Someone please correct me if I’m off track!).

I think diving into the NFT scene isn’t in my immediate future, as there’s still so much to learn. For now, I’m happy to be my hubby's “advisor” and share my artist perspective when he’s considering new NFTs to invest in!

That's all for now... Catch you all later!
