Hi Huneybees,
STGCC is happening! Let this Hogwarts wizard show ya a sneak peek on what to expect at the Coolest Event Of The Year!
Like every year, the event is buzzing with a kaleidoscope of activities with over 200 exhibitors, 160 Artist Alley participants, and 119 product launches. With a unique DJ Night for the first time, bringing in the masters of 3 genres of Japanese music - Inu, D.watt and sasakure.UK, to spin for the fans in this 2-hour showcase from the best of Anisong,Touhou and Vocaloid.
There's so much to see, so much to do and at media preview, Huney'Z World caught up with Alex Solis, Humberto Ramos, Lenneth XVII and Matt "Sekure D" Fabris, before they get busy at STGCC. They had a Q&A session with Spiderman and I also got to be upclose and personal with these pop culture experts...
Rising to fame through his intricate sneakers and vinyl toy customization designs, Australian artist Matt "Sekure D" Fabris has already made a world wide fame working with brands like Nike, Kidrobot, Jordan Brand, etc.
Being a self taught artist has its pros and cons, Matt expressed that though he might not have the best knowledge in art history, it does teach him many practical lessons. It is often an expensive way to learn because making mistakes cost time and money but he can move forward to create his works with greater understanding.
When asked about his favourite piece of work, he said it was like choosing between your own kids. But the Labyrinth Airforce 1 holds a special place in his heart as it was the first shoe he used his signature robot arm pattern and made him popular.
I also caught Alex Solis in the midst of his drawing. Being helmed as the Threadless dominator with his t-shirt designs printed by online arts community and shop Threadless. He’s the creator of many of the website’s beloved designs and his illustrations of chunkie versions of pop culture characters, collectively known as ‘Famous Chunkies’, have been super popular - ranging from Marvel and DC heroes and villains, Disney, Star Wars, Star Trek, TMNT, Street Fighter, anime, 80s cartoon, etc...
Chunkies started while watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with his daughter, they kept making fun of them and questioned how are they were so fast and in shape when their diet consisted mainly of pizzas, so, Alex drew an image of what the turtles would have looked like and from there, he's been supersizing as per her request. He even did a My Little Pony rendition!
