Audi Fashion Festival 2014 - Audi Star Creation

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Every year, I'm always looking forward to the Audi Fashion Festival. Not just because there are big labels showcasing their latest collection, it is also because I get to see the works by the Asia's emerging fashion design talents on the Audi Star Creation.

Audi Star Creation is a regional fashion design competition that identifies and nurtures these talents and it is open to aspiring designers between 16 and 35 years old. The competition is spearheaded by the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (TaFf), sponsored by Audi Singapore and supported by F J Benjamin.

This year's is "The Asian Perspective" and all 12 finalists presented 4 outfits each revolving around the concepts of religion, history, culture, flora and fauna, as well as protective body armour. Last week, the winners of Audi Star Creation 2014 were announced with two menswear designers - Zhou Jun from China & Newman Han from Korea and one womenswear designer - Rebecca Lam from Hong Kong named the Audi Star Creation 2014 winners.

Zhou Jun won with his bold red prints for the menswear - Red Construction, with unique silhouettes and forms whilst Newman Han's collection - The Scientific Expetition showcased a collection of outfits that encapsulated the themes of study and exploration.

Rebecca's inspiration comes from "paper", thus the name ZHI for her collection. It was clever manipulation by using fabric as paper, cutting, folding, painting and burning it to achieve the looks. I like how she kept it monotone, like ink on paper and with the peek-a-boo cutouts, the models in her outfits were exuding sexiness!

The judging panel included Mr David Wang (Chairman of the Designers & Retailers Group of Textile & Fashion Federation Singapore), Mr Colin McDowell (Creative Director of Audi Fashion Festival 2014), Odile Benjamin (Divisional CEO of F J Benjamin, Fashion Dynamics Singapore Pte Ltd) and Kenny Lim (Co-Founder and Director of DEPRESSION).

Other than this year's winners, three other designers that were also worth checking out are - Hye Jin Kim from Korea, Keh Min Chloe from Singapore and Tu Nguyen Hoang from Vietnam, who presented a classy and structured, form fitting collection.
